Illuminated

My abstract work is inspired by interpretive studies of things of the natural world. Illuminated was born of a study of fast moving water over a bed of rocks, titled Intimation and is part of my series Our Veils. 

The series tells stories of how we often attempt to hide or “veil” who we really are depending on who we’re with at the time.

The lights of the underpainting of Illuminated appear to almost glow among the darks. They resemble fireflies in the darkness. 

Unlike other paintings in this series, the veil of Illuminated enhances, rather than hides anything about the underpainting. It brings a glow to all the lightness of the underpainting, making it appear almost mystical.
